Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What materials are used in your vaporizers?
A: We use all RoHS compliant, lead-free, non-toxic materials. We only use woods that are sustainably harvested or reclaimed, and we make all our vaporizers by hand right here in the USA.

Q: Why are Vaporizers healthier for me than smoking?
A: Vaporizers release the active ingredients of a plant material via hot air instead of combustion. This works by heating the material to above the temperature at which the natural oils will boil out, but below the temperature at which the plant material itself will burn. The result is nearly-pure active ingredient suspended in vapor which can then be inhaled. The vapor looks similar to smoke but is nowhere near as voluminous, odorous or easy to see. The vaporization process vastly reduces the carcinogens, tar, ash and other unhealthy stuff found in smoke. Convection vaporizers are far superior to the cheap conduction vaporizers on the market and don’t overheat or burn the material.

Q: Does vaporizing take more material?
A: No. Vaporizing is actually much more economical and efficient than smoking. Combustion burns up and wastes the majority of the active ingredient while vaporizing doesn’t destroy any of it and instead releases it all in a concentrated form you can use. Many people find vaporizing to be 2-3 times as efficient (or more!) so you can save money and material.

Q: How do I know when my stuff is all vape’d out?
A: When the material has released the majority of its active ingredients you will no longer be able to draw vapor from it. The material will also change to a dark-golden-brown color. This material does have some active ingredients left and you can save it for baking and making poultices, etc. Be creative!

Q: How can I get a custom piece?
A: Commissioned pieces are priced depending on type of wood and level of complexity. Contact us with the details of your idea and we can get started.

Q: What is your warranty policy?
A: We will fix or replace your vaporizer if anything goes wrong with it within 2 years of purchase. Power Supplies are under warranty for 90 days.

Q: Where are you located?
A: In beautiful Northern California.

Q: What shipping method do you use?
A: We ship orders using the US Postal Service. Vapes are shipped via Priority Mail with insurance and accessories are shipped via 1st Class or Priority depending.

Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Not at this time.

Q: What is a Lost Dog?
A: A Lost Dog is a vape that has some sort of cosmetic defect that does not affect its performance and is therefor sold at a lower price. Lost Dogs are a great way to get an Underdog on a budget.

Q: What are all those acronyms?

  • ABV: Already Been Vaped (Used Material)
  • AC&H: Aroma Cup and Hook (Copper Aromatherapy Cup)
  • GonG: Glass on Glass
  • RoHS: Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment
  • SGS: Simple Glass Stem
  • SS: Silicone Stem
  • UD: Underdog
  • VVPS: Variable Voltage Power Supply
  • WonG: Wood on Glass
  • WPB: Water Pipe Bowl

Q: What is a VVPS and should I use one?
A: A VVPS is a variable voltage power supply. A VVPS can increase the lifespan of your UD and offers greater control over temperatures. A VVPS allows you to set your UD at a lower standby temperature (also good for aroma oils) to reduce wear and tear and decrease the amount of time it takes your UD to reach usage temperature (as opposed to starting cold).

Q: Where do I go if I have questions about using and caring for my Underdog?
A: Read this page first, and if you still have questions please contact us.
